Decorating Tips!

I've always loved taking time to decorate my dorm: whether it's my many Beatles posters, finding interesting ways to sort my scarves, or putting up copious photos of all the people I love.

I am so messy when it comes to my jewelry! I can never keep my necklaces neat, or my earrings in order. My friend gave me an amazing idea though - and it works! I love how it adds some bling to my walls.

I really love doing this with my scarves as well.

Both of these are really easy to do: all you need are some thumbtacks, and a blank wall! Make sure that this is okay with your parents though. I don't want to be responsible for any holes in your walls that they don't want. Stick the thumbtacks in and hang your scarves, hats, necklaces! It's so practical AND super cute.

Positive Publicity

via People
After reading Julia's post a few days ago, I came across this amazing ad campaign by Diesel. Diesel searched for models of all backgrounds, and created an ad campaign celebrating every individual. Jillian Mercado, the woman on the right, is battling muscular dystrophy, yet leads an active life as a fashion blogger and photographer. And trust me, she totally works the camera! No matter how tough my day has been after classes, meetings and practice, women like Jillian inspire me to keep going!

Power in Pumps & Heels

via: http://weheartit.com/entry/32965175

Ladies, there is great POWER in wearing PUMPS & HEELS!
Don’t let the fellas tell you anything less. Pumps can be the pride of the female.  It is your time to SHINE, with your head held high in those heels.  We are given the pleasure of stepping out in pumps in the most glamorous of occasions.  And while, yes, your feet may hurt after a long day’s journey, girl, THEY won’t be remembering your pain but your poise and grace.

But remember to always wear what makes you happy and comfortable. If you aren’t ready for the 6-inch pump, maybe try a 6-inch shoe with a sturdier, thicker heel and a 1 to 2-inch platform base for added support in order to maximize your comfort (and to lessen the arch/slope of your foot).  This is a good trick for those of us who can’t point our toes or are less comfortable walking in heels but want the same fierce look of the pump.

So ladies, go forth into the world and be GREAT, be glamorous, and be prosperous.

Real and "real" women

Lots of people are really, really excited about Aerie's "real model" spring campaign. And yes, it's a huge step in the right direction in an industry that's incredibly focused on altering the bodies of already thinner, taller and more in shape than average women... but that's the point. These models are already thinner, taller, more in shape and therefore more conventionally attractive than the average women.

I admire Aerie for taking this first step, but can't help feeling that it still isn't enough -- there needs to be more attention to putting genuinely real women in print media and fashion advertising.

Beating the Winter Chill

As a California girl, I was not at all prepared for New England winters. I had no choice but to learn to walk very quickly and layer up. I've found that hats and scarves make a huge difference. Also, when it gets really frigid (like today), I will even wear tights or thigh high socks underneath my jeans--big game-changer. It's always tough to strike a balance between staying warm while you are outside and not getting too hot when you're in the very heated classrooms. Anyways, here's what I'm loving right now...
